Vietnam National University of Agriculture strengthens cooperation with Dutch partners

On December 8-11, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, VNUA President and Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Viet Long, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Office, joined MARD’s mission led by Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong to visit and work in the Netherlands. The OKP project and works on circular agriculture and post-harvest loss reduction at Wageningen University and Research are reported to the delegates
The delegation had countersy call with Mrs. Carola Schouten, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality Netherlands, high level meeting with Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, High Commissioner of the Delta, Netherlands. The delegation also worked with businesses and livestock group for example De Heus Group, MS Schipper, with Wageningen University and Research and the Center for Innovation, and visited several advanced and successful models, research facilities and agricultural production in the Netherlands such as the world's largest flower auction market Alsmerer at Royal Flora Holland, Coolport in Harbour Rotterdam, one of the largest logistics ports in the world, the World Horti Center, Vietnam Embassy in the Netherlands. In the working framework, the Netherlands introduced an overview of strategic management mechanisms and policies to manage the agriculture economy, the comprehensive ecosystem to develop an advanced circular agriculture, focusing on human resources and innovation to develop world-class farms and agricultural enterprises. The Netherlands is known as a country with highly developed agriculture with modern infrastructure, advanced farming technology and approaching agriculture 4.0, new seed production technology, intensive farming using modernized mechanization in the direction of the market approaching the global commodity production chain. On this occasion, VNUA president Lan had meetings to discuss cooperation proposals with traditional partners, who had close relationship the university, for example with President of the Wageningen University and Research, Rector of HAS University of Applied Sciences, Management Board of the World Horticulture Center, Lentiz Education Group, Agriterra. These partners have cooperated closely with VNUA over the years through the implementation of more than 15 international cooperation projects on agricultural ecology, plant protection, seed technology and currently the OKP, a project funded by the Netherlands Government through the Nuffic, to improve the capacity of the fruit and vegetable industry in Vietnam, (http://okp.vnua.edu.vn/).

As a leading university in the country in training and scientific research in the field of agriculture, VNUA was strongly supported by Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong and the Dutch Embassy in Vietnam in strengthening the cooperation with Dutch partners. Taking this occasion, VNUA proposed 05 key contents including (1) continuing to enhance cooperation in training human resources, (2) developing joint research in circular agriculture and minimizing post-harvest losses in Vietnam, (3) setting up an agricultural innovation center at VNUA, (4) cooperate with MS Hycare company to build a demonstration model and transfer knowledge about clean pig production technology in Vietnam, and (5) promote joint research and technology transfer for vegetable and flowers production.
